Things I discovered so far today:
- Virgin America is awesome. (I’m still on the plane.)
- Bringing your own Brooklyn turkey-cheese-bagels for lunch is a much better idea than relying on plane or airport food.
- Good coffee does exist on planes, sort of. This Illy Issimo iced cappuccino ($3 on Virgin planes, and technically more like a latte than a cappuccino) is the best canned coffee drink I’ve ever had. Granted, that doesn’t set the bar especially high, but compared to the awful drip coffee served on every plane and in every airport, this is a huge improvement.
- The WiFi is worth it.
- A laptop with a removable battery, and a spare charged one, would be incredibly nice on a 6-hour flight. Realistically, nothing except the 17” AircraftCarrier Pro gets that kind of battery life while doing anything meaningful, but the 17” ACP would be far too impractical for an airline seat. The ideal travel laptop, then, is probably the 13” aluMacBook, not the Air.
UPDATE: There’s a power outlet under the seat! Thanks, Lucius!
