It sounds like a major upgrade, although I’m not qualified to say why, since I’m not in the video business. What’s really interesting to me is the price: $299 in the Mac App Store. Previously, Final Cut Pro was $999 and Final Cut Express1 was $199, so this is a huge price drop for FCP.
This isn’t the only recent Apple pro-software price drop: Aperture’s price dropped by about $100 to $79.99 upon entry to the Mac App Store.
I assume Apple’s discontinuing Final Cut Express. I’m curious: Who bought it? Seems like it lacked the functionality that most professionals needed, but was too complex and expensive to be a prosumer-iMovie. ↩︎
