Nest 2.0 software update →
A lot of people have asked me about this today.
It’s great that they’re improving the Nest so quickly via software updates. But it still lacks what I consider to be a very necessary feature: a “hold” mode that simply locks the temperature at the dialed-in setting indefinitely until you change it. In other words, a mode in which it behaves like an old-style thermostat. It’s the only programmable thermostat I’ve ever seen that doesn’t have this feature.
It’s nice to think, philosophically, that it doesn’t and shouldn’t need this if it can be so “smart”. In practice, though, I’ve found that I wish for this feature on my Nests regularly. What if I feel like 66° today and 68° tomorrow?
Real life is unpredictable and people like to change their minds.
