More smart analysis from industrial designer Don Lehman, this time on the leaked photos of the purported replacement for the Dock connector:

I can’t say for sure that this is the new iOS dock connector, but my gut feeling says that it probably is. Even if it’s not, we can at least agree that this design has some pretty smart features baked in.

As soon as I saw these photos a couple of weeks ago, I was convinced of four things:

1. It’s definitely the new Dock connector.
2. It’s reversible, which is awesome.
3. It’s basically USB 3, but with a proprietary Apple chip so they can control (and profit from) licensing and provide a few extra features.
4. We’re going to love it.

I’m confident that it’s real because the design is so small, simple, friendly, and smart. That’s Apple at its best.
