The Realities of App.net App Pricing →
David Smith does the math to show what you can expect to make with a successful App.net client.
It’s pretty grim. The service just isn’t big enough for a successful client to support even one full-time employee, and the pool for their monthly Developer Incentive Program commissions isn’t big enough to make a huge difference unless a single app nets an unrealistic majority of it.
Unless the service grows substantially, the state of App.net clients is unlikely to change much from the status quo: a few hobbyist apps from generous developers’ free time and a few shallow ports of Twitter clients, but nobody able to afford full-time effort.
