When the May 2013 redesign hit, most of the pieces were already in place.
The update this month probably seemed more sudden and extreme for two big reasons:
- The business model changed dramatically to be more modern and competitive.
- Most people hadn’t been paying attention to Flickr for years, so we missed all of the warm-up steps.
Those were the two big problems that the Flickr update addressed. Everything else is secondary.
