Instapaper adds iOS 8 extensions, user profiles, and new Premium subscription →
I love what they’re doing over there. See also: Federico Viticci’s great review.
- Save-to-Instapaper extension: Finally. I spent so many years hacking bookmarklets, fighting browsers, and campaigning for third-party apps to support my API because this wasn’t possible before, and I never thought it would be. Save-to-Instapaper was always in some applications, but it was never in all of them automatically (and without having to log into each), and it was never in Safari. This truly changes the game.
- User profiles: As soon as I saw the original, now-defunct News.me app, I knew I wanted similar functionality in Instapaper. I could never quite get it there myself, but all I had to do was sell the app to News.me’s owner and wait a year and a half.
- App is now free: I used to talk a lot about how the app should always be paid, but that was a long time ago, and times have changed. This is the best move to make in today’s market for a general-audience app like Instapaper.
- Premium subscription: A great deal on great features, and makes up for the app now being free.
Excellent moves all around. I’m very happy with Instapaper’s new owners.
